About Documenter

Documenter started with a small, maddening problem. You fill in an online application for an exam or a government service, reach the upload step, and the portal refuses your photo because it is 62KB instead of "20KB to 50KB", or because it is 400 pixels wide instead of the exact size demanded. So you hunt for a converter, upload your photo to some website you have never heard of, and hope for the best.

That last part bothered us. Handing your photograph, signature or identity documents to an anonymous server just to shrink a file is a poor trade. Modern browsers are perfectly capable of resizing and compressing files on their own — so that is exactly what Documenter does.

What it is

Documenter is a small toolkit for fitting documents to a required size and shape:

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. You can read more on the privacy page.

Where it's going

This is an early version. More formats and more tools will follow, and every change will keep the core rule intact: your files stay on your device.
